“HOME STATION COMPLEXES for HYBRID FORCE TRAINING” Discussion: The urgency of supporting the current fight blurs the usual differences between the Current and Future Force. The Army is currently accelerating the inclusion of select Future Force capabilities into the Current Force to support today's fight, while simultaneously ensuring that today's lessons learned are applied to Future Force developments, even if that means adjusting Future Force capabilities direction and timing. In short, war time changes require the Army training complexes to deal simultaneously with both current and future war fighting training requirements. At any point in time the Army will be a hybrid force, a force with a mix of current (existing) organizational structures and capabilities and transitions to future force designs and capabilities. The Army's home station live-fire training areas must support hybrid force training needs. The Army's leadership decision to spiral (accelerated fielding of) selected future force capabilities into the Current Force blurs the differences between the Current and Future Force. Training range complexes must have operational architectures and features that allow the various hybrid force units to be effectively trained in all their operational tasks. Additionally, a units training effectiveness must be analyzed (AARs) during each training event Bottom line: Home station ranges, maneuver areas, targetry, instrumentation, communications, safety features, environmental compliance aspects, etc. capabilities are needed to support hybrid force training. These hybrid force Army training complexes will maintain and enhance the Army's Joint Capabilities and Functions that are needed to fight our nation's wars. Rational: The Army's BCTs include modular units, Stryker units, and in 2014 a FCS BCT. New off-the-shelf technologies and spiraling FCS capabilities will be provided to Army forces. Army range complexes are required to accommodate the evolving hybrid force training requirements
