Staff & Faculty Core Curriculum

Synchronous Distributed Learning Instructor Course (SdLIC)
in REDESIGN

1. COURSE DESCRIPTION:  SdLIC is a 5-day (45-hour) course designed to support The Army School System (TASS) total force training mission. The goal of the course is for platform instructors to develop the skills and knowledge required to effectively deliver instruction using the Army's current synchronous dL tools; currently SdLIC teaches how to facilitate training/education using Video Teletraining (VTT) and the Web Conferencing tool Defense Connect Online (DCO). The SdLIC is divided into 3 lessons: a 5-hour IMI course prerequisite (Analyze VTT Instructor Knowledge Requirements), a 23 hour VTT lesson (Facilitate Training/Education with VTT) and a 16 hour Web Conferencing Tool lesson (Facilitate Training/Education with Web Conferencing Tools). The VTT lesson is instructor-led teaching combined with student-centered hands-on practice to develop proficiency in operating main and auxiliary cameras, multimedia equipment and the skills to deliver quality instruction using VTT. The Web Conferencing Tool lesson requires students to complete various DCO tutorials, then use a job aid during instructor guided practice to prepare and present instruction via DCO to the instructor, then to a class.

2. TARGET POPULATION:   The course is designed for experienced platform instructors who are currently, or anticipate, presenting instruction over VTT/web conferencing tools. It provides a certification process to ensure that instructors receive standardized training and are evaluated before they present instruction over VTT/web conferencing tools.

3. COURSE PREREQUISITES:   Certified as an instructor; completion of lesson 1 of DCO prior to start of DCO lesson 2.

4. WAIVERS:   None

5. STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE:   The end-of-lesson exercises require students to present a class over VTT and a class using a Web Conferencing tool (DCO). Students are evaluated according to a performance evaluation checklist.

6. MANAGEMENT:   The course manager for SdLIC is the Staff and Faculty Development Division, TCM-TADLP, U.S. Army Training Support Center, Fort Eustis, VA 23604-5166. For SdLIC information or scheduling call: SFDD Registrar, DSN 826-4535/3142 or Com (757) 878-4535/3142.   [calendar TBD]
