Automated Systems Approach to Training Basic Course (ASATBC)




1. COURSE DESCRIPTION:   The ASATBC is a three-day (24-hour) “learn by doing” course designed to teach and develop Individual training materials using the Automated Systems Approach to Training (ASAT) software. The Automated Systems Approach to Training (ASAT) is a standardized training development and support delivery system. It functions as both a training production system and a tool for decision making. The ASATBC provides students the skills and knowledge to use ASAT features and modules in support of their Individual training development duties. Students learn how to use ASAT by inputting data after first observing the instructor thus due to the hands-on requirements of the ASATBC, the course is a resident course using traditional classroom presentation supported by numerous practical exercises.

Specific topics include: A functional overview of the ASAT Power Panel, menu and tool bars, Support Module, Tools Module, and Systems Admin Module. and the Individual Module to include: Create/Edit Individual Tasks, Individual Task Development Wizard, Create/Edit Soldier Training Publications (STPs), STP Wizard, Create/Edit Lesson Outlines/Plans, and Create/Edit Training Support Packages (TSPs). This course does not teach the CATS, Doctrine or Collective Modules.

2. TARGET POPULATION:   Army training managers, training developers, writers and other individuals (military, DoD civilians, contractors) who are assigned and/or responsible for developing training/education products in ASAT.

3. COURSE PREREQUISITES:   Successful completion of the Systems Approach to Training Basic Course (SATBC) (or its equivalent) and the ASAT Tutorials located at: http://www.asat.army.mil/. Military must meet height and weight standards IAW AR 600-9 and pass most recent APFT. Military and civilian personnel should have a working knowledge of computer word processing, specifically the Windows 95/98, MS Office 97/2000 platforms.

4. WAIVERS: None

5. STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE:   Students must successfully complete six practical exercises with the instructor and two evaluated practical exercises on their own. The evaluated practical exercises are evaluated hands on by the instructor. Students must receive a “GO” from the instructor in order to pass the course. Students passing the course receive a certificate of course completion.
