Staff & Faculty Core Curriculum
Small Group Instructor Training Course (SGITC)
1. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The SGITC is a five-day (40-hour) training program designed to support the Total Army School
System (TASS) total force training mission. The SGITC provides a standardized training support package
for training small group instruction (SGI) and is conducted using the concept of “learning by doing.”
The SGITC is designed to teach instructors how to prepare and facilitate a small group to achieve a
training objective, to build teams, and effectively apply experiential learning concepts when using
SGI. The course presents definitions, terminology, and instructional methods used in SGI. The course
also provides insight into how adults learn and develop as individuals and group members with a common
goal. The SGITC presents exercises and conferences designed to have students experience, first hand,
how groups react and interact in a variety of situations and SGI methodologies through conventional
classroom settings or via video teletraining networks (TNET).
